Fundraising Auction
Renaissance Heathrow Hotel-27th Oct 07
4 Peace of Mind
– a UK based charity, held their annual dinner and auction event at the
Renaissance Heathrow Hotel, London on Saturday the 27 October 2007.
Tayyab Salimullah (Trustee)
introduced 4 Peace of Mind to the guests as an organisation that works on
a not-for-profit and voluntary basis. The management team consists of medical
and pharmaceutical professionals – providing much need support and expertise
during the aftermath of natural disasters anywhere in the world.
The secretary for 4 Peace of
Mind, Arshad Ali, was interviewed by Dr Farrukh Hussain; the interview gave
the audience a deeper insight into the organisation, its processes and
governance.
The guest of honour,
Raja Zulqarnain Khan (President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir), addressed an
audience of nearly three hundred guests and dignitaries. In his
speech, he thanked the 4 Peace of Mind Team for their efforts in Kashmir
and reaffirmed his commitment and support in helping rebuild and sustain the
lives of those most affected by the devastating earthquake of October 2005.
Dr Shamim Khan and Dr
Syed Saboor gave the audience an overview of the activities of 4 Peace of
Mind in Kashmir over the past twelve months – which included the building of
17 houses; providing clean water to two villages and supporting over 50
orphans.
Dr Surraiya Zia shared her experiences of providing medical expertise in
Balochistan – treating over 500 patients in five days.
Dr Shakeel Qureshi gave
an update of the collaboration work with the Indonesian Paediatric Cardiology
Society in helping build 7 houses for the most needy after the recent
earthquake.
The main focus of the
event was to raise more funds for new and ongoing projects. Specifically, 4
Peace of Mind raised just under £40,000 – contributions came in thick and
fast from various organisations and individuals. Some of the auction items
on the evening included; holiday to Zambia, flights to Pakistan, Dubai, Saudi
Arabia, bespoke clothing from Ted Baker, photograph of the Earthquake zone by
Laurie Lewis, Art work and many other items.
This could not have
happened without the generosity of the guests and the skill and inspiration from
the auctioneer, Afzal Rai.
The proceeds raised on the evening will be used for two medical
centres, completion of houses under construction and ongoing orphan projects.
The event was
supported by Renaissance hotel, Sapna Caterers and Reflex Communications
– 4 Peace of Mind are grateful to the support received from these
organisations.
